From Firebird

This post is made from the Mozilla Firebird browser, at version 0.7. I discovered this browser while looking at old files on my dad's computer.
Extensions seem to be working.... kind of. I installed Undoclosetab and it works, except that it is in German for some wierd reason?!
Edit: also I am thinking of moving this blog onto my website.

Favorite Firefox Extensions

These are my favorite Firefox extensions.

  • 1. Undoclosetab - adds a very needed functionality in Firefox that allows closed tabs to be 'unclosed'.
  • 2. Adblock - blocks annoying ads from websites.
  • 3. Add Bookmark Here - allows quickly adding bookmarks in any folder by adding a menu item to that folder.
  • 4. Cute Menus - adds little pictures beside all the menu items in Firefox.
  • 5. SuperDragAndGo - Open things in a new tab by dragging and releasing the URL anywhere blank on the page.
  • 6. IE View - allows a right click option to view current page in Internet Explorer.

Posting from the couch

This post is made from my father's laptop from work while I am sitting in front of the TV in the family room, and the rest of the family is having dinner. My Dlink 250+ router is acting as the wireless. Here is my picture:

No Name

Wow! Check out the right click menus in Firefox compared to Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1!!!
The right click menu is what you get when you right click on one of the tabs in the browser.
They happen to be exactly the same thing! The top menu is from Firefox 1.0.6 and the bottom one is from IE7B1. The last menu item in Firefox is an addon (undoclosetab extension). In a clean install of Firefox, even that last option will not be there and both IE and FF right click menus look the same.
Also Diggnation Episode 6 is out.

Copy protection

Copy Protection is junk!!!
Those who want to pirate software and other media will continue to do so even with the copy protection in place, and those loyal, average customers who don't give about stealing music won't steal it even if there is no copy protection. So, copy protection only makes the hackers/theives more annoyed...they still don't stop.
[edit] Oh yeah.. and I signed up for Digg.com. See my profile at www.digg.com/users/abid786.
Also, I am installing Windows XP service pack 2 right now. Also, I ordered Windows XP service pack 2 from Microsoft in the mail. It is free.

IE7

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/default.mspx
Finally, its getting updated...AND it gets tabbed browsing too now! I think they copied a lot from Firefox's successes: tabbed browsing, search from the toolbar and RSS and CSS support.
Look at their use of the word DYNAMIC--dynamic security protection through a simplified architecture that defends against malware, and new dynamic ways to protect against personal data theft from...sure...whatever Microsoft!

Montreal

Some pictures from our trip to Montreal... We went to Montreal and Quebec City, which are both European-flavoured cities located in the province of Quebec, which was originally a territory of France (back in the 1600s). The provice of Quebec is the only province in Canada to have only French as an official language, and thus all signs are in French. Anyway, we got back on Tuesday morning at 3:30 AM, after a long drive of 8 hours from Quebec City. We spent Friday, Saturday and half of Sunday in Montreal, and spend the latter half of Sunday and Monday in Quebec City. Quebec City is about a 2-3 hour drive from Montreal, which itself is a 5-6 hour drive from Toronto.
A picture of Yasir's atImagest at writing Abbu's name. . .Yasir having two opposite drinks again! Compare this to the picture from Ottawa of Yasir having 2 drinks (the one at the right). . .The city of Montreal from a cathedral looking south (I think) during sunset. There were also some services that were taking place during the time we were at that church. Click this picture to enlarge it. . . Montreal's downtown from the Olympic Park area. . .Notre Dame Basilica, of course in Montreal. . .Inside the Basilica was beautiful. . .The biodome had interesting life forms in it. . .
To see some more pictures, see Yasir's blog at: www.yasirsphere.blogspot.com, under the entry for August 2.

Quebec City

These are pictures from Quebec City. Quebec City is the only fortified city north of Mexico City in North America. Quebec is also the provincial capital of Quebec, so it has a parliament also.
The Parlement du Quebec (the English word parliament comes from the French Parlement, which means 'talking' or 'speaking'). . .The Montmorency Falls are higher than Niagara Falls! They are 11 kilometers north-east of Quebec City. . .The Chateau Frotenac was a rich man's estate at one time. This picture is taken from La Citadelle, which is an active military base built to defend Quebec City from the British back in the 1700s. . .Another picture of the Chateau Frotenac, this time from the street.
